External Hard Drive Not Showing In Disk Management


I have an old laptop (Thinkpad 760ED) that has no boot device (no floppy, old non-booting CD drive, an HD with corrupt NTFS). Theres a lot out there. What leads do I need? What can be the problem here ? The only options that are showing when rigjt clicking are initialize disk, offline, properties, help. if my laptop HDD is dead, is there ANYWAY i can restore the data?
